He has photographed the Linear Accelerator at Stanford University. His most recent work at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory was to photograph the National Ignition Facility (NIF). A project so large and complex, Jim was brought out of “early retirement” to create the type of photography the project director demanded and was not receiving from the staff photographers. The NIF project has laser bays that are approximately a football field in length, with a target chamber that is over one hundred feet in diameter, and the target is about the size of the head of a match. Jim had to combine his photomicrography skills with his industrial and technical photography skills to create dramatic images that were demanded by the project director.
After retiring from the lab, some of his client's have included: Jacobs Engineering, J. Rigby, The Cardinal Club, Duplin Winery, Chatham Hill Winery, Rabbit Ridge Winery, Baker Guitar, S.J. Deferville Construction, Inc., Mafi-Trench Corporation, Arrow Industries, Thin Film Technologies,Nextel and Zurn Industries.
